Interactions between ecology and evolution

I am fascinated by interactions and how they can drive diversity even in simple environments. I love a good statistical puzzle and to find out new ways of analysing data.  I am also a big fan of experimental evolution  (maybe big is an understatement).

During the PhD I investigated how the interaction between chance, history and selection shaped adaptation to new environments across biological levels. Then I switched from empirical to the theoretical world, to explore the distribution of fitness effects of mutations across environments and the predictability of evolution . Recently, I surrendered to eco-evo and I am now investigating how species interactions (specifically competition) shape and are shaped by adaptation.

In my research I typically use (or try to at least) empirical approaches and theoretical or statistical modelling, and I have worked with various organisms (photos below).

Ultimately, my goal is to investigate how eco-evo feedbacks contribute to maintain genetic, phenotypic and species diversity.
